Petmate: B2B Commerce Portal for a Major Pet Products Manufacturer

Client: Petmate (Doskocil MFG)

February 12, 2026

Petmate, a brand of Doskocil Manufacturing Company, is one of the largest pet products manufacturers in the United States. With a portfolio spanning kennels, bedding, feeders, toys, and waste management products, Petmate serves a massive network of retail partners, distributors, and specialty pet stores. When the company needed to modernize how their wholesale partners placed and managed orders, they turned to Creatuity to build a dedicated B2B commerce portal.

The Challenge

Petmate’s wholesale ordering process relied heavily on legacy systems and manual workflows that created friction for both their internal sales teams and their retail partners. As the pet products industry grew — particularly through the pandemic-era surge in pet ownership — the volume and complexity of B2B orders demanded a more scalable, self-service approach.

The company needed a B2B portal that could handle complex pricing structures including tiered and negotiated pricing for different partner levels, bulk ordering with minimum order quantities, and custom catalogs tailored to specific retail channels. The portal also needed to integrate cleanly with Petmate’s existing back-office systems to ensure inventory accuracy and order fulfillment efficiency.

Our Approach

Creatuity designed and built the PetMate.com B2B Portal on Adobe Commerce, leveraging the platform’s native B2B capabilities while extending them to meet Petmate’s specific requirements. The entire engagement followed a structured delivery process, ensuring full traceability from requirements through delivery.

Our team began with a comprehensive discovery phase to map Petmate’s partner ecosystem — from large national retailers to independent pet shops — and understand the unique ordering workflows each segment required. This informed the portal’s architecture, particularly around customer segmentation, pricing rules, and catalog visibility.

Key features of the B2B portal included company account structures with multiple buyer roles and approval workflows, custom shared catalogs with partner-specific pricing and product visibility, quick-order functionality for repeat purchases using SKU entry and CSV upload, and requisition lists enabling partners to save and reorder frequently purchased product assortments.

The checkout experience was designed specifically for wholesale transactions, supporting purchase order numbers, net payment terms, and split shipment configurations. This represented a significant departure from the typical DTC checkout flow and required careful attention to both the user experience and the backend order processing logic.

Results

The Petmate B2B Portal transformed how the company interacts with its wholesale partner network. Retail buyers gained a modern, self-service ordering experience that dramatically reduced the time and effort required to place and manage wholesale orders.

For Petmate’s internal teams, the portal reduced manual order processing overhead and provided better visibility into partner purchasing patterns. The structured company account system gave Petmate granular control over who could order what, at what price, with appropriate approval chains in place.

The portal’s quick-order and requisition list features proved especially valuable for Petmate’s high-volume retail partners, who frequently reorder the same product assortments across multiple store locations. What previously required phone calls, emails, or fax-based ordering could now be accomplished in minutes through the self-service portal.

Creatuity’s work with Petmate demonstrates our deep expertise in Adobe Commerce B2B implementations for manufacturing companies with complex wholesale distribution networks. The project showcases our ability to translate intricate business rules around pricing, catalogs, and partner hierarchies into a polished, intuitive commerce experience.
